| | | | | | | | | | | 2/24/2007: Olympus SP-510 UZ Review | (Published by Keith Tuomi) | When we think of digital cameras, we normally think of hardware that can shoot virtually anything, since the technology should be so advanced now days.
Olympus has really never disappointed me but this camera really didn’t show me much from their last model. Even though I love Olympus cameras, the size is still moderately heavy, which was the same in their last model and we still see the 10 x zoom which is exactly the same as the SP-500 UZ. What I do like in this model is that Olympus upgraded from 6.0 megapixels up to 7.1, that was definitely a necessity and they really nailed it in that department.
Another thing I really like about the SP-510 UZ is the help feature which basically assists you through anything via the graphical menu. If you are stuck somewhere, the help assistant will walk you through whatever it is you are stuck with.
One thing we are seeing is that more and more cameras are starting to shoot in a RAW images format, which used to be pretty rare, but now is starting to become common.
This camera is only about $300, which is fairly cheap and many of the features on this camera are bonuses since you only find them on the more expensive cameras.
In my opinion, you are getting a lot more for your money when purchasing this camera. Is it the best camera on the market? No, not at all, but it will do exactly what you want and give you professional photos.
The ideas are endless and Olympus continues to impress us with their technology upgrades.
| | 2/23/2007: Back to basics: Photo shooting and seasons | (Published by Keith Tuomi) | Well depending on the time of the season or what you are practically planning on shooting depending on the way you feel would make all the difference in the world.
There have been thousands of articles written by professional photographers explaining why it’s important to shoot certain objects depending on the season, whether it be winter, spring, summer or fall.
Since certain times of the year are more gloomy then others, it would be a lot different shooting with a flash on then under natural sunlight, since there are many interesting things to take pictures of in the winter, it might be a little tedious since it’s a bit darker when it snows, etc.
If you are a summer person, you could certainly take pictures of the beach and the ocean or a family sitting in the park having a nice picnic. Since photographers try to tell a full story in one image, it’s important that they get the perfect shot; this might take hundreds and hundreds of tries, which is why you usually see a photographer with hundreds of proofs. The ideas are endless.
In my opinion, taking pictures in the fall is the best since there are so many different colors. With today’s new technology, we see cameras that can zoom in very close which naturally improve an image but if you are interested in the “overall” picture, taking a zoomed out shot wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
Trees are beautiful in the fall, so you will see a lot of photographers taking photos of the different autumn colors. The light makes a lot of difference, so try taking the same photos at different times of the day.
