| | | | | | | | | | | 5/27/2007: let's fly away | (Published by Keith Tuomi) | Going on vacation ? taking a long week end ? Take pictures. One of the favorite activities of human beings is going on vacation. While most of you will take images of the beautiful beaches or cities you visit, something is always forgotten. The means that got you there.
While you wait at the airport for that delayed flight or as you pack your car with those heavy suitcases, you should also document it. Images of transportation are always a good seller as they can represent many different things : transition, change, escape, move, leisure, but also energy crisis, economy.
Every type of transportation is a good idea. Not only planes, trains and automobiles, but sidecars, bicycles, camel back , elephants are in use. As long as it says traveling in it, be it by using suitcases ( also a good picture ) or a little boy already in his underwater gear in the airport.
Be careful about security rules in your country, however. Some airports will not let you take pictures without authorization so make sure you catch up on local laws.
And don't forget to have a good time when you get there.
Happy trailings !!
| | Read more... | 5/23/2007: Go read a book !! | (Published by Keith Tuomi) | It always seems that after a photo shoot or uploading images to Zymmetrical, one finds it hard to find inspiration. Once you are finished photographing your immediate surroundings and getting images out of opportunity, it sometimes because difficult to find a subject or an idea.
Here is a tip from pros : walk into a bookstore or a magazine store and look around. Everywhere you look, you will see images that actually sold. Pay attention to style, composition and subject matter. Take notes. Select the ones you like, not the ones that you could replicate easily. I'll tell you why. The more you have fun taking pictures, the better they will look, the more chances they have to sell. Look at the ones you think you could improve upon, and do it.
Finally, look at all the book covers and what type of images they use. It is always a good indication for the more conceptual image. A book cover usually tries to represent a mood, an emotion. See if you can do better. And finally, but it is the most important, copy. Look for an image, or a series of image that you like. And try to copy. As you will do so, you will discover your own voice, your own talent, style.
Hope it helps
