Maximize your earnings

(Published by Keith Tuomi)
Stock photography is quite simple if you apply some basic rules:

  • -  leave space for text: part of your image should have a consistent background, preferably light, so that designers can apply some text to advertise their service or product. Put your subject on the left, for example, and leave at least 1/9 of your image empty of clutter.
- Use concepts rather than idea.An image, a graphic or video that illustrate a concept has more chance to sell than any other image. Use positive concepts like happy, joy, fresh and make sure they are very obvious. play Pictionnary with your images. See if someone in your surrounding understands.
- Use strong colors. Your images will be chosen because they need to be seen. Do not hesitate to go bold in your usage of colors. Try to use one dominant color per image or design. Make sure it is adapted to your concept. Black is rarely use with happiness
- Innovate: If it is not new and different, it is not interesting. Copy  images you like only if you think you can do better and more fascinating.
- Create a style: There is something about you that makes you unique. Make sure it seen in your art.
- Use people, not objects: people relate to other people, not to flowers or trees.
- Make them vertical: Twist that camera on vertical. a lot of ads on the internet are vertical.
- Be emotional: make them cry, smile, think. Images can be extremely powerful medium for emotions. Use it and abuse it.
- Think ahead: What are the big events coming up in six months, a year. Not only holidays but anniversaries and festivities. The summer Olympics are coming up next year in China. Sports and China. Two themes buyers are looking for.

With these fee tips, you should be on your way to getting such a portfolio that it would be hard to resists. If you have any other tips, please feel free to add.

Happy shooting !!!
