Does your working environment have to be 'just so' for you to design? We've talked about inspiration and software and computers and monitors - I just wonder what else is in your personal get-it-done corner.

If I were a student of feng shui, I might find my workspace miserable. I've recently moved offices and everything in here is GRAY.

I've put a coffee cup with a cheesy beach scene on my desk, and a smiley face sticker on my monitor. I also have a really sharp, smooth desk organizer and a bag of pistachios and Keb Mo playing in the background. It works; while I will shine it up a bit more, I have the basics for sanity.

How about you?
Beware the lollipop of mediocrity.

I find having my fish in easy view while I work helps greatly with the calming vibes they give me.

When I am working, I tend to tune out everything around me.

I need to be listening to music, no matter the genre. Sometimes I like to work outside and get some fresh air. I find that just by moving locations in the house I feel a lot better. Inspiration strikes everywhere so its good to be prepared.

I would not like to work anywhere with a plain grey background. Nope.

I find art - of any type (I'm also a writer) - only works when I have input. I cannot work in silence in a plain room just staring at the computer screen. I live in a muddled clutter and usually have music playing. Maybe my brain works best when it is overstimulated.

I work similarly to some of you here I think. I can't get down to work really without some good music on and a cup of coffee to sip. I keep the lights in my room pretty low because I hate harsh overhead lights and other than that I keep a lot of photos of friends and family around as well as posters of my favourite artists and album covers in order to provide inspiration. I have Monk, Davis, and Coltrane posters up alongside Dali and Picasso to keep myself motivated!

I'm a little weird in that I need noise around me which means that the TV is on. On my desk I have 3 lady gerbils in a big cage that keep me highly entertained. I also find it very inspiring to have a lot of visual things (photos, drawings) around me. It's easy to tune everything out if I'm really into something, but the distractions keep me from getting too frazzled.

I’m just working on a corner of our house.  I couldn’t even call it’s a workplace because it is too crowded and dirty.  I guess that I’m just used to this that’s why I can work on the environment.

Mine is always a clutter! I try to keep it clean but I usually have so much going on that it ends up being a disaster!

I tend to be a bit disorganized when I'm arranging my photos. As long as everything is within my reach and I know exactly what I need and where to find it I'm ok. However, I have to straighten everything up when I'm finished. So, in a sense my workspace is much more organized when I am not there than when I am.

I love to work in a quiet and neat space. I do not want to work in a place with too much clutter as I am not really that comfortable. It is also important for me that my workplace has good ventilation and lighting.
