My husband is a graphic designer and he often wonders if he should go back to school for his MFA.

What do you think? Is it just an excuse for the colleges to make more cash? What can you learn there that you can't learn on your own?

That's a good question. I'm not skilled enough in the art of graphic design to do more than make an educated guess. I think that you can always learn something new by going back to school, but if the entrance fee worth all of that? An MFA might look good to a future employer, but I think at that point, that's all it is- a little trinket to showcase your accomplishments. It might convince people to hire him more often however, so it can go both ways!

I agree that the MFA is little more than a resume-booster right now. In all creative arts - digital design / photograph included - talent and perserverance is the key to getting a good job or succeeding in your own business. Much can be learned without a classical education

What is a MFA? I assume it is a Masters in something? I am going to school right now because I think the further you make it in school the more opportunities open up for you and you will land better jobs. My goal is to work for Google.
