What was your age when you got your first camera? You won't belive that I didn't touch camera until I finished my school. I was of 17 at that time.
I got my first camera when I was 18 and now I bought one camera with my own money.

I Was 13 years old, I kept asking my mother to buy me one for my birthday since I was like 6. She finally got me one when I turned 13 and I was in love ever since.

You were old huh, I think all of the cameras that I did get when I first started taking pictures were cheap so I think they were more of my learning capsules until I really could afford to take better ones.

I think I must have been about twelve when I got my first camera.

It was a 110 camera, I think. The number also referred to the kind of film it took.

I still have some memorable if not technically good shots from it.

I'm sorry, I've accidentally posted twice here.

By the way, I've seen scanners that scan negatives. I wonder if negatives from the above camera could be scanned and processed?

I have an HP Scanjet 5300 and it does scan negatives.  It came with an adapter that sat on the glass and you would slide a negative strip in to the adapter.  Then, I would make sure the settings in the HP scanner software was set for negatives.  I have lost the adapter, so I guess that it doesn't scan negatives anymore.  :-)

The first camera I ever got was a disc camera. It was tall and flat and had film that looked like a viewmaster insert - big round circle with little film rectangles around the outside like teeth on a gear. I was 10 or 11 and I took a picture of a houseplant hanging in a window. I still have that pic - the plant is a silhouette and there are weird light issues.

I have since learned not to take a snapshot directly at a window. :)

The first camera I got was a hand-me-down from my older brother -- a Canon Elf (sp?) that was pretty all right for what it was. I still don't own my own camera which is a shame but since getting into university I haven't had the spare money to invest in one. Because of this I've ended up doing mostly lo-fi type photos and experimenting with "bad" pictures as art. Artistic philosophy by circumstance I guess.

That's funny, my first camera was a Disc camera also!  I always liked the negatives being in the form of a disc.

I also seem to remember being able to take a picture every 1 second, which was fast in those days.

I've never seen these disc cameras but they sound pretty neat. I love playing around with older technology so it would be great to get my hands on one of those. When were they popular? Do you think it would hard to find one know in a thrift store or pawn shop?

I didn't actually own or use a camera until about 2 years ago when I received one for a Christmas present. My parents were still using old-fashioned cameras rather than the digital ones that are popular nowadays, but I'm very happy when they bought me one of my own. I love having a little screen to look at to make sure that the picture is going to be perfect.

I would say that, based on my age, disk cameras were popular in the early to mid 1980s. They had a very short career, and film became impossible to find rather quickly. I suppose you could find one in a thrift store, but film is another matter. And I doubt they were rare enough to be worth anything.

It was in my teens that I got my camera. Maybe when I was 14 years old.

I was twelve when I took my first picture. I was thirty four when I got my first digital camera-which is much better than a regular camera.
